Alicia Beckhurst

Alicia-Beckhurst5 in 5: Alicia Beckhurst, CWTC's General Manager. To formally introduce her, here's 5 questions in 5 minutes with the woman herself.

Q. Nickname?

Lis or Leece by friends. Al and Ali by family only.

Q. Why do you love what you do?

I get to work with some incredible minds; writers, actors, directors and designers. Everyone has a unique way of working on a text and bringing it to life, it's fascinating to watch and wonderful to be a part of.

Q. What was your first experience of live theatre, and what continues to draw you to it?

I was very lucky, mum would take me to see all sorts of shows from a very young age. I can't remember exactly what my first show was but I'm betting it would have been at The Spare Parts Puppetry Theatre in Fremantle, WA. I have vivid memories of walking underneath all the puppets I'd just seen on stage, hanging up backstage.

Theatre is magical. It immerses and transports you to another world.

Q. What’s your favourite book or movie of all time, and why did it speak to you so much?

This is such a tough question! I have a couple, I know this is cheating but... 'Memoirs of a Geisha' was introduced to me, again by my mum, when she was reading it for book club. I was 10 years old and the world of a Geisha was so foreign to me it sparked my curiosity into other cultures/worlds. 'Brave New World' is the other book I'll always come back to. It's a challenging one as it calls into question my view of  technology and its place in today's society.

Q. Who would play you in a movie of your life?

Emma Stone.
