5 inRoderick Cairns, CWTC's Macbeth. To formally introduce 'Roddy', here's 5 questions in 5 minutes with the man himself.
Q. Nickname?
My sister calls me Boris. Nobody remembers why.
Q. Why do you love what you do?
You get to be other people for a while, which makes a nice change from having to be yourself all the time.
Q. What was your first experience of live theatre, and what continues to draw you to it?
I have very vague memories of seeing a Pantomime version of the fairytale "Rumpelstiltskin" when I was very little. Even then, theatre looked like a heck of a lot of fun, and on a good day, it still is.
Q. What’s your favourite book or movie of all time, and why did it speak to you so much?
I find it impossible to pick one "favourite" book or movie. That said, Star Wars - A New Hope is one movie that has a very special place in my heart. It's really the first movie I have clear memories of watching. That opening shot where the Imperial Cruiser roars over your head is deeply imprinted in my brain. Also, it has lightsabers and a wookie in it, so what's not to like.
Q. Who would play you in a movie of your life?
Given that I'm a jobbing actor and this sounds like a role I'd be pretty much perfect for... I'd give the part to me, of course. On the other hand, it sounds like it might be a pretty boring movie so maybe it wouldn't be such a great career move.
